Margaret Mary (Peg) Daly died, as she lived, peacefully in her hundredth year. She was born in Stamford on March 20, 1912, the daughter of Margaret Kearney Murphy and Maurice J. Murphy and the sister of the late Anne M. Reardon.
Peg, a lifelong resident of Stamford, had lived at Smith House for the past twelve years. She was educated in the Stamford Catholic school system, graduated from Danbury Normal School (now Western Connecticut State University) and taught in the Stamford public school system.
She was married to Eugene L. Daly from 1938 until his death in 1979.
She is survived by three children, Margaret Parente Marino of Stamford, Kevin Daly of Newport Beach, California and Rosemary Marcuss of Washington, D.C., six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren as well as fifteen nieces and nephews and the hundreds of pupils whose life she influenced for the better.
Her life was shaped by her love for her family, for books and for all children she met. Her family requests those who wish to honor Peg’s memory to dedicate some extra time to read to a child. There could be no more fitting tribute to her life.
Friends may call at the Leo P. Gallagher funeral home, 2900 Summer Street, Friday, April 1st, 4pm to 8pm. A mass of Christian burial is set for Saturday, April 2nd, 10:30am at Holy Spirit Church, 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien, CT.
