Shirley Abernathy, born in Lilesville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, at the age of 85. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Raymond Abernathy, and a loving mother to Sonia Roberts (Tommy), Tim Kelly (Susan), Debbie Rollins (Jim), Pam Howard (Chad), Rodney Lundy, Kevin Lundy, Chris Abernathy, and Scott Abernathy (Kerri). Shirley was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Marvin, her sister Joyce, and her beloved grandson Steven. Shirley will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and the deep love she held for her family, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished for generations.
A visitation will take place at Carothers Funeral Home, located at 412 South Main Street, Stanley, NC, 28164, on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held at the same venue beginning at 2:00 pm.
