He was 79 years old.
Mr. Bowden had a long career in the insurance and reinsurance businesses, including time as the CFO of J.L.Kelley Inc. and executive Vice President at Guy Carpenter & Co.
Prior to those positions, the St. Peter's High School and Wagner College graduate was the comptroller at Staten Island's former Notre Dame College and St. John's University's Island campus.
He also taught at his high school alma mater and St. Rita's grammar school.
A lifelong sports fan who spent much of his youth on the ball fields and park courts of West Brighton, he is survived by Ruth, his childhood sweetheart and wife of 58 years, and three children, Nancy Schieda (John), Alison Matthews (Joe), and Jeffrey (Christine).
An unassuming man of faith, he was at his most content when surrounded by family, including any and all of his 10 grandchildren (John, Casey, Tyler and Emma Schieda, Joe, James and Kelly Matthews, Hailey, Gabriella and Thomas Bowden.)
He is also survived by three brothers, John, Joseph and James Bowden, and great grand-daughter Sadie Quinn Schieda.
Mr. Bowden was pre-deceased by his parents, Nora and John Bowden.
The Mets and Jets have lost an ardent fan, as have dozens of nieces, nephews, in-laws and grand nieces and nephews who counted on him for his wise counsel.
