

Committed volunteer, beloved mother, of Dongan Hills
Diane M. Kurpis, 70, of Dongan Hills, Staten Island, died suddenly on Sunday, March 20, at Staten Island University Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Diane graduated from Bay Ridge High School before moving to Staten Island.
She was the beloved mother of Stephanie Banasky and Natasha Kurpis. She leaves three grandchildren, Christie, Emily and Robert; her sister, Kathleen Maffeo; her nieces, Kathleen Milazzo and Doreen Napoli, and nephew, Kenneth Maffeo.
Kind, caring and generous, Diane was a committed volunteer. She was known to always put others needs before her own.
Diane enjoyed spending time in nature. She loved writing poems and short stories, as well as crafting cards for her loved ones. She was an avid reader. She liked to spend her free time riding her bike and talking with her neighbors in the community.
Diane returned to school after raising her children. She maintained a 4.0 GPA and received a bachelor's degree in business from Queensborough Community College, which made her and the family very proud.
Visiting will take place on Thursday, March 24, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Virginia Funeral Chapel in Dongan Hills. A funeral service will take place on Friday morning at 10 a.m., also at Virginia Funeral Chapel. Cremation will be private.
