Dorothy M. McCormack (nee Polowitz), age 86, of Staten Island, New York, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020. Dorothy was born Nov. 5, 1933, in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. She came to Meiers Corners in 1966. Dorothy worked as a teacher for I.S. 72 in New Springville for nearly 20 years, retiring in 1995.
Dorothy rooted for the New York Yankees. She loved going to the theater, watching old movies and doing the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle with her husband of 56 years, Robert McCormack, a former NYPD inspector and executive officer of Patrol Borough Staten Island. He died in 2015.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Kathy and John McCormack; her grandchildren, Aiden, William, Victoria and Elizabeth McCormack; and her cousins, Randy and Gary Tynes. A graveside ceremony is scheduled for July 30, 20 at Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
