Much loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother
The Ghigliotti family expresses with deepest sorrow that beloved Edith Ghigliotti (nee Prato) has passed away at the age of 96 on April 14, 2018.
Edith was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. She later moved to the neighborhood of Dongan Hills in Staten Island. She went to P.S. 11., attended Curtis High School, graduated Hunter College with a bachelor's degree, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Her bachelor's degree earned her a teaching position at St. Peter's Elementary School. She was a member of St. Ann's Church, an auxiliary member of the Richmond Town Historical Society, and a member of Sweet Adeline's.
Edith was married for 70 years to her husband, John, and had three children, Jane (Kenneth) Malta, John D. (Gail) Ghigliotti, and Peter (Nancy) Ghigliotti. Together they have eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Edith is survived by her sister, Ann Dezio, and predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Prato, her sister, Alice Prato, and her brother, James Prato.
Visitation will be held at Virginia Funeral Chapel on Monday, from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, a Mass will be held at St. Ann's Church at 10 a.m., followed by interment at St. Peter's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Friends of Carmel Richmond, 88 Old Town Road, Staten Island, N.Y. 10304.
