

Emily Altergracia Andersen-Westby, 95, was called by God on 11/06/2022 to join her ancestors in his heavenly kingdom. Emily was born in St. Thomas where she was raised until her family moved to St. Croix. She showed her strength and perseverance by moving at the age of 17, with her younger sister Adella, to the United States of America.
Emily met her husband, Evan Westby, in New York City. They married and moved to Staten Island in Dongan Hills. We were among the first families to live in the Berry Houses. Emily worked in the iconic Lower Manhattan Restaurant, Chock Full of Nuts for a number of years before finding a career working with hearing impaired children and as a Nurses’ Aid at St. Vincent’s Hospital. She also worked as a teachers assistant at PS 40 on Staten Island.
In 1971, Emily relocated to St. Croix, where she attended the University of the Virgin Islands and working at Pearl B. Larson School until her retirement in 1981.
Emily moved back to Colonie, NY in 2012 to live with her daughter. She is predeceased by her mother, Roslyn Burke, her father, Criminatus Andersen and sister Vida Chinnery and survived by her sisters, Adella Jacobs, Magdalene Plaskett, Evangeline Best and Eleanor Nicco. As well as children: Juliette, Jeffrey and Edwin and his wife Maxine Westby. Emily is also survived by, her two grandsons, Master Sgt. Justin Hauser and Andre Hauser as well as her great-grandchildren: Malak, Andre, Evan, Jaydis, Amir, Emily and Elias as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation for Emily will be held Sunday, October 16, 2022 from 12pm to 4pm at Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY. There will be a grave side service on Monday October 17, 2022 for friends and family.
