A graduate of Manual Training High School, Class of 1955, Gerry met the love of her life, Joseph Giorlando, at a Tito Puente dance in Brooklyn. They married the following year at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. When Joseph was drafted into the Army and stationed in Utah, Gerry stood faithfully by his side. It was there she gave birth to their first daughter, Jeanne. Upon returning to Brooklyn, they welcomed two more daughters, Joan and Ann, before settling in Staten Island in 1968, where they made their family home.
Gerry worked as a supervisor for the New York State Department of Social Services, a career she dedicated herself to until her retirement in 1999. Outside of work, she had a love for country line dancing and swimming, but her greatest joy came from caring for her family. She never forgot a birthday and delighted in preparing a special dinner and cake for each celebration. Her generosity, warmth, and devotion touched everyone who knew her.
Gerry was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Joseph, in 2017. She is survived by her three cherished daughters, Jeanne, Joan, and Ann; her treasured granddaughters, Karen, Krista, and Kaelee; and her adored great-grandson, Frankie. She will be remembered always with love and gratitude by her family and friends.
Gerry’s life was a testament to love, family, and kindness. She will be deeply missed and forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
