

Gregory passed away on Saturday, January 29 after a short battle with cancer. He was a life long Staten Islander. Greg graduated from Curtis High School , began working at the Bank of Tokyo and then later went on to start a successful career with J.P Morgan Chase, having the opportunity to travel the world through parts Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. He worked with Chase for over 39 years, retiring in 2017 as a Vice President.
Greg had a great love for the arts and theater. He was a talented artist and painter, devoting over 30 years of his time as scenery and set designer for Sacred Heart School, St. Peter's Boys High School and Eltingville Lutheran School. He loved seeing shows at St. George Theater and in his retirement years, enjoyed making diamond art paintings.
He was a board member for many years at Saint Peter's Elementary School, enjoyed working the Chinese auctions at St. Peter's High School, and enjoyed a good casino.
But most of all, he loved his family and all the holiday and birthday celebrations, the trips to Ralph's ice and favorite vacation trips to Disney, Hershey, Cape Cod and Atlantic City.
Greg is survived by his wife of 46 years Joanne (nee:Varrera) Children Gregory Newman (Lindsay), Kristy Mulligan (Sean), Lisa Newman, his Grandchildren Nicholas and Steven Bivona, Grace Newman, his brother Robert Newman (Rosemary), sisters in law, brothers in law and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Robert and Margaret and his sister Dorothy.
Visiting hours will be, Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at The Harmon Funeral Home. The Funeral is Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. George Theater.
