Born and raised in Brooklyn where he met and married his wife of 66 years Eileen (Gogarty). In 1968 they relocated to Silver Lake where they raised their 3 children and hosted many family gatherings.
For more than 30 years he worked as a Union Carpenter for many firms in New York City. In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, trips to Aruba, and spending time at the Jersey Shore with his family. James also took great pleasure in using his carpentry skills to renovate his children and grandchildren’s homes.
James is survived by his loving wife Eileen, and his 3 children, Eileen Newman and her husband James, Catherine Tedesco and her husband Joseph and James Hartman and his wife Ana. Grandchildren: Colleen Silk, Catherine Newman, James Hartman, John Newman, Claire Tedesco, Christine Barresi and Dana Tedesco. He is also survived by 4 great granddaughters: Hannah Silk, Katherine Silk, Eleanor Gerwin and Eve Gerwin.
