Born in Staten Island, James lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, humor, and love for family and friends. He attended PS 26 in Travis and graduated from McKee High School.
James proudly worked for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation for more than 39 years, retiring as a supervisor. He truly loved his work and was proud to call himself a “Parkie,” often sharing stories and memories from his many years with the department.
Outside of work, James found great joy at his bungalow on the lagoon in Ocean Beach, where he spent many happy summers and falls “Down the Shore,” at the little house his Mother bought in 1964. He was also a proud member of the Ocean Beach Yacht Club. Those who knew James will remember his quirky personality, quick wit, and whimsical expressions, especially his beloved saying, “My Petunia in the Onion Patch.”
James is survived by his loving daughter, Florence Ann; his sister, Joan Dicks; 10 nieces and nephews; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary Jane, his parents, Florence Skowronski and James H. Pechtold II, and by his sister, Diane Humphrey.
James will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
