Janet McLaughlin Marchese (85) died suddenly of natural causes on April 29, 2024 in her beloved home in Sunnyside. She was a native-born Staten Islander, grew up in West Brighton and attended PS 45 and Curtis High School. She loved her neighborhood and neighbors and lived in the same house for over 60 years.
Janet loved all animals - especially dogs whom she liked more than most people. She had a special sweet spot for a Bichon Frise named Figaro, and welcomed countless others into her home regularly. She will be greatly missed by the neighborhood squirrels whom she kept well-fed with Costco cookies.
She worked for many years for Dr. Jitendra Patel at HIP on Clove Road. After her retirement, she enjoyed watching tennis and rooting for her favorites (Roger and Rafa), taking trips to the Casino to play the slots, and talking about her great-nieces and nephews to anyone who would listen.
She was predeceased by her parents, James and Estelle McLaughlin, her brother Philip and her former husband John Marchese.
Janet is survived by her sister-in-law Barbara McLaughlin, her nieces Collette Torri and Janet McLaughlin, and her great nieces and nephews Marina (my-my), Warren, Anna and James who were the loves of her life. She is also survived by special cousins who were like her sisters - Colleen Laureno, Judy Petroni and Dianne Chernyk of California.
Janet will be remembered by those who loved her for her sharp sense of humor, her love of all things Irish, and the deep friendships she made, especially Lillian McIsaac - her best friend of 80 years.
Her family would like to thank her neighbors who were always there for her, especially the Collins and Cascios whom she loved liked family. We are especially grateful to John Cascio for his support.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Humane Society of New York (https://www.humanesocietyny.org)
