

Janet May (nee Genco) Payson a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend peacefully entered eternal life surrounded by family on December 28. She was born in Brooklyn to the late Vincent and Mildred Genco on February 17, 1947, the oldest of six children. She attended Port Richmond High School and married her childhood sweetheart, the love of her life Ralph Payson in November 1964, recently celebrating their 61 years of marriage.
Janet's greatest joy and most treasured job was being a devoted home-maker and raising 4 children. She also enjoyed baking with her grandchildren and passing down family traditions and recipes, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love. She worked part time in Singer's catering hall, and also sold Stanley and Avon products. She was an entrepreneur owning her own ceramic studio for many years. Janet, along with her husband spent many hours giving back to the community they loved. Janet served on the board for Camelot, was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she organized church events, volunteered at VBS, Trinity Lutheran Church food pantry and much more. Janet was also an accomplished seamstress and had a passion for crafting, knitting and needlepoint.
Janet is survived by her loving husband Ralph, children Darline Woodhouse (Ron), Michael Payson (Lucille) and David Payson. Adored grandchildren Brianna, Christopher, Kristi, Matthew, Victoria, Vincent and Brooke in addition to her sisters Linda Sak, Mildred Ghigliotti, Nancy Caputo and Karen Genco. Many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Janet was predeceased by her son Steven Payson, and brother James (Jimmy) Genco
In Lieu of flowers donations in her name can be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran food pantry, Camelot or a charity of your choice.
A celebration of life will be held at Casey Funeral Home, located at 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314, on December 30, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The funeral service will take place at Zion Lutheran Church, situated at 505 Watchogue Rd, New York, NY 10314, on December 30, 2025 at 9:30 AM.
