

John F. Haglund Jr. 72 was a long time Staten Islander living with his wife of 45 years Karen Haglund (Wilkinson) in Arden Heights. He was born in Brooklyn to John Haglund Sr. and his wife Helen Piekarski.
He attended Bishop Ford High School in Brooklyn and worked as a telephone repair man for Verizon (formerly Bell Atlantic).
In his younger years he was a competitive bowler playing in high school and then joining many men’s leagues. His passion was following professional sports as a lifelong Yankees, Jets (and sometimes Packers) and a NY Rangers long time season ticket holder and member of the original NY Ranger fan club. One of his favorite hobbies was fishing.
His love for hockey went beyond the Rangers as his son Peter began playing ice hockey which took the family all across the United States and Canada attending tournaments and camps.
Following his retirement in 2005, John and Karen traveled extensively visiting Europe, Costa Rica, the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska. John and Karen were also avid Disney fans traveling to Disney World frequently since the mid 70’s. They also visited Disneyland and Disneyland Paris.
In addition to traveling, John volunteered with Meals On Wheels for several years delivering food to homebound individuals.
John is survived by his wife Karen, son Peter (Caitlin Miller), dog Scooby, sisters-in-law Deborah Friedman (Mark) and Jeannette Wilkinson (Joe Mazzeo).
