Born and raised in Ohio, he lived in Brooklyn before settling in Rossville in 2004.
A member of the International Longshoremen's Union, Mr. Parrett worked for more than 40 years as a longshoreman. He retired in 1992.
He enjoyed eating dishes that his wife prepared and loved spending time with his children. He also enjoyed visiting Atlantic City.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas R.C. Church, Brooklyn.
Brigida, his wife of 38 years, died in 1992.
He is survived by his son, John Jr.; his daughters, RoseAnn Cacaci and Michele Holmes; his brothers, Donald, Richard and Leon; his sisters, Sarah Lemmon and Annie Lemaster; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
The funeral service will be Friday at 10:45 a.m. in the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
