Marieta Argentina Arias Contreras, 93, of Silver Lake passed away at Staten Island University Hospital North on Friday, June 7, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Ricaurter, Los Rios Ecuador where she was home-schooled, and live and having lived her adult years in Balzar, Guayas and later took accounting and nursing courses, Mama Marieta was known as a strong, independent, self-motivated woman who was full of love and a selfless generosity, always extending a hand to her many family members and friends. With a natural drive for hard-work, she forged a successful career as an entrepreneur of many unique small businesses including operating a sawmill, lumber yard, gas station, sales distributor of coffee and cocoa beans and managing a chicken farm.
Mama Marieta also had a passion for agriculture and especially enjoyed cultivating rice and corn. It gave her pride to grow her own food to be shared with her family. With that same pride, she loved sewing and often created children's clothing for her children and grandchildren. In 1986 she moved to the USA and established roots in Staten Island, NY since that time. Her family tree has since grown and blossomed in America where she is survived by her sons Julio & Miguel, and her daughters Emma & Vilma as well as daughters-in-law Manuela & Teresa, sons-in-law Ruben & Robert; grandchildren Alberto, Marlon, Katerine, Veronica, Marieta, Rosa, Dayra, Xiomara, Miguel Jr, Fernando, Christian, Daniel, Jonathan & Justin, 25 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She would often be heard saying in joy, "Ave Maria!" because indeed, she was deeply blessed by God with a full life.
Marieta Argentina Arias Contreras, de 93 años, de Silver Lake, falleció en el Hospital Universitario Norte de Staten Island el viernes 7 de junio de 2019, rodeada por su amada familia. Nacida en Ricaurter, Los Ríos, Ecuador, donde estudió en casa, se mudo a Balzar, Guayas donde vivio por mucho tiempo, y luego tomó cursos de contabilidad y enfermería, Mama Marieta era conocida como una mujer fuerte, independiente y auto motivada que estaba llena de amor y generosidad desinteresada, siempre extendiendo una mano a sus familiares y amigos. Con un impulso natural para el trabajo duro, forjó una exitosa carrera como empresaria de muchas pequeñas empresas únicas que incluyen la operación de un aserradero, una gasolinera, un distribuidor de ventas de café y granos de cacao y la administración de una granja de pollos.
Mama Marieta también tenía una pasión por la agricultura y especialmente disfrutaba cultivando arroz y maíz. Le gustaba cultivar con mucho orgullo su propia comida para compartirla con sus familiares. Con ese mismo orgullo, le encantaba coser y a menudo, creaba ropa infantil para sus hijos y nietos. En 1986 se mudó a los Estados Unidos y estableció sus raíces en Staten Island, NY. Desde entonces, su árbol genealógico ha crecido y florecido en América, donde le sobreviven sus hijos Julio y Miguel y sus hijas Emma y Vilma, así como las nueras Manuela y Teresa, yernos Ruben y Robert; nietos Alberto, Marlon, Katerine, Veronica, Marieta, Rosa, Dayra, Xiomara, Miguel Jr, Fernando, Christian, Daniel, Jonathan y Justin, 25 bisnietos y 4 bisnietos. A menudo se la oía decir con alegría: "¡Ave María!" Porque de hecho, fue profundamente bendecida por Dios con una vida plena.
