Mark E. Decker Sr., 66, beloved husband, father and friend, passed away April 5th 2021, alongside his family. Born on February 18, 1955, Mark was a lifelong Staten Island resident, residing in both New Dorp and West Brighton. He is a graduate of Queen of Peace elementary and New Dorp high School. With a love for learning and history, he began his college education at SUNY Delhi and continued with his education as an adult learner at The College of Staten Island.
Mark began his career with Con Edison, dedicating 35 years of service, before retiring at the age the age of 55. He took pride in his role as a Senior Customer Service Representative for the borough of Staten Island. Upon retirement, he worked to build a successful e-bay business, specializing in antiques and tools.
Mark married Ann Decker (nee Parker) in 1977 and were married for 43 years. Mark cherished his family, always putting them before himself. He was a warm and loving caregiver for his elderly family members. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards with family and friends, gardening with his wife and watching sports with his children. He loved to exercise, was a member of the YMCA and also played an active role in his children’s sports programs (SHLL, CYO and Sparten League). He had a love for the outdoors, frequently going for walks and spending time at Clove Lake park. He had a special bond with animals and adored his two dogs, Max and Murphy.
A devout Catholic, Mark was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and attended services regularly. Mark believed in helping those in need, donating to several charitable organizations throughout his life.
Mark was proceeded in death by his mother Elizabeth, his father Robert and two brothers Robert Jr and Gregory. He is survived by his wife, Ann Decker (nee Parker), his three children, Jennifer Hudson (nee Decker) and husband Christopher, Mark E. Decker, Jr and Victoria Decker.
Family and friends will be received at Harmon Funeral Home on Saturday, April 10th from 7pm-9pm and Sunday, April 11th from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021, 12 noon, at Sacred Heart Church in West Brighton. Burial and final place of rest at Moravian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mark’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and North Shore Animal League.
