Mary Kathryn Johnson

Mary Kathryn Johnson, age 83, of Staten Island, NY, passed away on August 7, 2025. She was born on Staten Island on December 12, 1941, to Mary and Charles Johnson, with whom she lived until their deaths. Mary Kathryn attended Notre Dame Academy as a child and continued her studies to become a teacher at Notre Dame College on Staten Island. She taught 8th grade for many years at Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Good Counsel schools there. Her numerous students enjoyed her dedication to their academic experiences, especially class trips to Washington DC. Mary Kathryn was a history enthusiast and world traveler and shared that passion with her students. “Miss Johnson” could be seen driving her characteristic convertible sports car for many years.

Mary Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother Kevin. She is survived by her sister-in-law Jennye Johnson of Mathews, North Carolina, her nephew Kevin Johnson, Jr., grandnephews Patrick Kenny Johnson and Nils Gordon Johnson of Falon, Sweden, her aunt and godmother Dorothy Kenny (age 103), her godson Brother Edward Kenny Mancuso, a Benedictine monk from Belmont Abbey in Belmont, North Carolina, her close friends Fran Lehr and Joanne Kramer, numerous cousins, friends, and hundreds of former students.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, located at 10 Austin Pl, New York, NY 10304, on August 27, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Following the service, a Committal Service will take place at St. Peters Cemetery, 52 Tyler Ave, New York, NY 10310, from 11:15 am to 11:30 am.
