Peter Thomas Simonetti, a retired buyer and salesman of high-end audio electronics, passed away suddenly January 24th, 2021 at the age of 79 years old. Peter was predeceased by his brother Harold. He is survived by his wife, Karen (née Meister); his brother John; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gilbert and Doris Meister; his four children Peter Jr., David, Michael, and Jennifer; and his three grandchildren Anne, James, and Margot.
Peter was born November 16th 1941 in Brooklyn, New York to Marie and Peter Simonetti and grew up in Ridgewood Queens. He received an Associate’s degree from RCA Institutes in Electronics and went on to work in the consumer electronics industry in a variety of roles including merchandising, procurement, and sales at Harvey Electronics, Park Avenue Audio and Innovative Audio. He treasured the friendships he made in the industry and continued many for the rest of his life. He also served in the Army National Guard.
On June 14th, 1996, Peter married Karen Meister and went on to share 24 years of adventures together. Peter was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Peter loved finely engineered mechanical things. He was an avid audiophile. He loved cars, especially exotic brands, and often worked on them in his youth. He also built remote-controlled model airplanes and was known as an ace pilot. He loved music and the performing arts, particularly opera, and he imparted that love to his children. Peter was a regular patron of the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet, and Broadway.
He was a kind and caring man who adored his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A visitation service is scheduled for 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday, January 27th, 2021 at the Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Avenue, Staten Island NY 10310. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or the Metropolitan Opera.
