
Robert Kay, age 84, of Staten Island, Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Robert W. Kay and the late Sarah Nesbitt Kay and brother to the late Joyce B. Kay. He was the loving and dedicated husband to Margaret Bradley Kay for 62 years.
Beloved father to Laura Ryan (late Thomas), Robert J. Kay (Kari), Richard Kay (Lisa). Devoted grandfather to Thomas, Kristy, Robert and Erik, as well as nieces and nephews.
As a young boy, Robert played basketball for his church Zion Lutheran in Brooklyn. He is a graduate of Fort Hamilton High School and an accomplished track star for his school and won various medals, earning an outstanding gold medal.
He worked as a 3rd generation Reinforcing Ironworker for Local 46 for 35 years. He had a fond memory during his career working with his son Robert on the Ellis Island renovation in 1988 and ’89. This was sentimental to him since his mother came there as an immigrant from Scotland in the early 1900’s.
Robert was a veteran who served his country in the U.S. Army in the Corp of Engineers for 6 years. He had a huge passion for the New York Yankees and loved to watch every game. He was a member of the Sons of Norway, Nansen Lodge 3-410.
He was a kind and generous person who loved spending time with his family and will be tremendously missed.
A memorial gathering for Robert will be held Saturday, March 11th, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Robert’s memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
