A lifelong Staten Islander, Rose Zaccaria passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the age of 96. She was born Rose Tranchina to the late Josephine and Andrew Tranchina. Her brother Anthony pre-deceased her. Rose was married to the late Mario Zaccaria for 48 years before his passing in 1999.
Rose graduated from PS 41 and New Dorp High School. She then attended
Baker Business School. After graduation, she worked as an executive secretary in Manhattan. Before long, her father asked her to join the family business, Tranchina Building Supplies, where she helped to run the business until she retired in the late 1990s.
Rose had many hobbies. She was very skilled with needlework, including knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint. Her crocheted blankets adorned many baby cribs over the years. She loved to bake and travel, and was also an avid reader. Mostly, she enjoyed talking about her beloved Staten Island, the history of the Island, and her many memories. Rose was a devoted dog mom and spoiled her beloved fur babies beyond measure. She also cared for friends’ pets when they were on vacation. Rose had a special devotion to the Rosary, and led a life of Christian service and prayer.
Rose is survived by her sister-in-law, Madeline, many nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews and cousins. For the past few years, she was well taken care of by her caretaker, Tina.
To honor this special woman who enriched us with her love, loyalty and generosity, a wake will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, and 7:00 pm – 9:00 PM at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Avenue, Staten Island, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 90 Third Street (New Dorp Lane) on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 11 AM. Burial will immediately follow at Moravian Cemetery.
