Lifelong Staten Islander

Ruth Boyd, 87, native Staten Islander, passed away on Sept. 16, 2017.

Ruth was known as the sage of the family, the person anyone could go to for advice.

Sister of the late Susan "Betty" Boyd, Mary Ann Boyd Drakes and Harold "Sonny" Boyd, she is survived by her brother, Edward Boyd, and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A lifelong Staten Islander, Ruth was a graduate of P.S. 16 and Curtis High School. She later went on to complete her bachelor's degree at New York University.

In her spare time, she enjoyed needlework including knitting and crocheting. She was an avid reader and passed her love of books on to many young people. She was also a lover of history and politics.

Viewing will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Virginia Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday morning at 10:15 a.m., also at Virginia Funeral Chapel. Interment at Moravian Cemetery will follow immediately after the service.
