

Samuel Alfred Chierchio, 86, of Emerson Hill, Staten Island, N.Y., passed away on April 8, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, Sam grew up in the same neighborhood as his late wife, Helen (nee DeCicco). They would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in May of this year. He was a longtime, successful salesman who retired in 2001 at age 70. Sam was a sergeant in the Army and a Korean War veteran. Sam served as president of the Little League Association. He was an avid and devoted New York Mets and Brooklyn Dodgers fan. He was also a parishioner of St. Teresa's Church. He is survived by his son, Gennaro; daughter, Christine Oehler and her husband, John, and sister, Gilda Tirro. Sam was the cherished and loving grandfather to three grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Sam was predeceased by his wife, Helen; his sister, Christine; and brothers, Jerry, James, and Carmine. Visitation is on Tuesday, April 11, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Casey Funeral Home. Mass is on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. at St. Teresa's Church. Interment is at Resurrection Cemetery.
