Sarah was born February 8, 1965 on Staten Island to Galt and Marlene MacDermot. Sarah was hidden in utero behind her identical twin, Jolanthe. The doctor was surprised at their birth that there were two babies as their hearts were synchronized. Standard practice in medicine in 1965 was to listen for a second heartbeat if twins were suspected.
Lifelong resident Sarah attended St. Peter’s girls’ school in St George. She was an equestrian during her young adulthood sharing a horse called” Shadow” with Jolanthe at Franzreb Stables. She attended Carlton University in Canada for three years returning home to graduate from Wagner College on the Dean’s list in 1986 with a degree in Spanish. Sarah was a tutor and furthered her own education by traveling extensively in Europe to study art with Jolanthe. At various times they lived in Spain and Ireland.
Deeply religious, Sarah MacDermot was a passionate, fiery, loving person. She had a smile and flow of language that was unique in the world and kept her family on their toes. She loved her family and cared for those around her. She was caregiver to her father, the late Galt MacDermot, who passed away in 2018. Sarah was a companion to her mother Marlene in recent years.
She is a beloved sister, aunt, and daughter and will be missed terribly by her family and those that know her. She cared for her nieces and nephews. She cared for the elderly. She had a beautiful heart.
Sarah shared an extraordinary bond with Jolanthe. They could communicate almost telepathically, never separating from one another. Sarah passed away at home on November 7th.
