years of age. An alumnus of City College and a licensed Professional Civil Engineer,
Bill retired as Borough Engineer in 1991 after a thirty-eight year career at Staten
Island's Borough Hall, having served six of the borough's presidents.
Growing up in West New Brighton, Bill attended PS 19 and Port Richmond High
School, whose halls always held fold memories for him. His membership on the
Alumni Board of that school was longstanding.
He and Claire Stephens married in 1955. They and their two children, David and
Louise, enjoyed annual vacations for eighteen years at Lake Wallenpaupack, PA.
The family's interest turned to sailing upon joining Richmond County Yacht Club in
which Bill took an active role. Bill and Claire cruised aboard their sailboat, Fairwind,
for thirty years. Additionally, they traveled to many destinations including Alaska,
United Kingdom, Europe and South America.
Funeral arrangements are by Casey McCallum Rice, Nelson Avenue. A future
memorial service, followed by a social hour, will be held at New Dorp Moravian
Church, details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory to
