Not just a snippet of memory from a visit decades ago-
A gift of selfless compassion. Yvonne's benevolent
character carried through passages in time. Heartfelt are
her soul and spirit, Kindness that were Yvonne's glow.
Decades would pass, but not forgotten. Efforts that brought the meek and frightened to a garden....where they found a place to blossom.
Yvonne and I share a bewhiskered passion-
a purpose driven by her spirit-
to spare a wild orange kitten,
a life of stress, uncertainty -
hunger and constant strife-
offspring of domestic cats,
deserted to the streets -
face a grueling existence-
slowly depleting them,
to a shortened span of life.
In a visit traveled from Maryland,
quite some time ago --
I found myself waiting, standing beside
my brother. His very presence
a Calming force; assurance
by her side;-
Yvonne with a humane trap,
and orange tabby kitten-
self-inflicting bleeding scrapes
upon its' face-from forceful
pushing against corners
of the metal cage,
completely terrified.
Yvonne and I commiserate - sensing the intensity
of the kittens fear-
exchanging looks of angst,
streak lines down our cheeks,
both of us have cried.
Months pass before another chance again-
eyes busily in scanning mode
on the Jersey turnpike - headed for Staten Island,
where I'm returning to visit Kin....
I reach my brothers house---
where, to my delight, an orange tabby sleeps curled up on the sofa. Confident and tame,
Yvonne & Jared bestow the name of Pumpkin.
and I could go on, to an even later date.....
where once again, visiting my brothers home...,
I meet a handsome cat named Harley-
Harley is beside several other cats, each in individual roomy crates.
Each cat has a rescue tale, Yvonne saves them from deadly fates.
This must be the operation-
of Yvonne Yusters' one woman feline Rescue Foundation!
Kudos & applause to my remarkable understanding brother--
Jared has gifted the Y&Y Rescue Foundation--
a designated Feline room -- just in case there comes another.
all my love to dearest brother....
Condolences...
and i can only say, we all are sad to say good-bye.
To know Yvonne was to know a person special and dear;
You honored her to a final breath--as she wanted you so near.
Ask me to do anything you need, If I can help, remember, too, I am flexible in time and space.....i can be anyplace.
I Love you,
from your sister, elizabeth, i'm the one closest to you--with regard to days between us two.
Peace my brother.....
