
Mrs. Griffin was a born and raised in Bulloch County and attended local schools. After high school, she moved to Savannah to work and met and married John Walton Griffin, to whom she was married for 70 years. She and John settled in Garden City, where they raised their family and became founding members of Woodlawn Baptist Church. Frances was active in many church groups and organizations and had been a faithful member, for more than 60 years. She volunteered in the Garden City community and loved gardening, shopping for pretty clothes and was most happy cooking for her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Dudley and Cassie Ree Jones Brannen; brother, James Williams Brannen and sister, Eloise Swindell.
Mrs. Griffin is survived by her daughter, Joan Griffin Lanier of Statesboro; son, John W. Griffin, Jr. and his wife, Michelle of Statesboro; grandchildren, Kimberly Lanier Grantham and her husband, Jason of Statesboro; Kerri Arendes and her husband, Brian of Statesboro; Sean Griffin and his wife, Brandi of Pooler and Christopher Griffin and his wife, Rebecca of Lumberton, NC; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter Grantham, Gabby Grantham, Austin Arendes, Ashlyn Arendes, Addison Arendes, Genevieve Joy Griffin and Waylen Grey Griffin; many nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 3:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday, April 30, 2017 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 1, 2017 in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Sean Griffin, Christopher Griffin, Jason Grantham, Brian Arendes, Hunter Grantham and Austin Arendes.
The family would like to thank the staffs of The Lodge at Bethany and Ogeechee Area Hospice for the help and care given to Mrs. Griffin during her illness.
