Franklin D. Crosby, age 81, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 in his residence in Morganton, NC.
The native of Register was the son of the late Mitch and Inez Allmond Crosby and graduated from Register School. After graduating high school, Franklin moved to Atlanta and lived there for two years before joining the United States Army. While in the Army, Franklin served as a member of the Special Forces and was a paratrooper. He retired from the Army, in 1993, with 30 years of service as a Sergeant Major and had been awarded many medals and commendations, including the Bronze Star Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Franklin moved to Collettsville, NC in 1980 and had lived in Morganton, NC for the past 12 years, where he was a member of the Masons and the Shriners.
In addition to his parents, Franklin was preceded in death by his daughter, Becky Lynn Cooper; granddaughter, Meagan Cooper; brothers, Allen Crosby, Douglas Crosby, Jimmy Crosby and Harold Crosby; brothers-in-law, Alfred Rowton and Earl Howell.
Mr. Crosby is survived by his son, Ricky Crosby of Alabama; sisters, Mary Ann Howell of Statesboro; Linda Rowton of Benton, TN; brothers, Bobby Crosby and wife, Doris of Metter and Tony Crosby and wife, Ronda of Nevils; sisters-in-law, Linda Jane Crosby of Jewell, TX; Diana Crosby of Twin City and Becky Crosby of East Dublin; special cousins, Walter Crosby and Francis Crosby both of Statesboro; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 12:30 to 1:30 PM Saturday, April 14th in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home followed by a graveside service, with military honors, at 2:00 PM in Bulloch Memorial Gardens with Reverend Johnny Beasley officiating.
