Gwen was born and raised in the small South Jersey town of Bridgeport, NJ. After graduating from High School she entered training at Delaware Hospital School of Nursing receiving her RN diploma. She married the love of her life, Willard Fell Sr. in 1944 and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage before his passing in 2012.
She worked for many years as the county public health nurse, as a school nurse and in the local hospital as she raised two sons and a daughter. At the age of 50, after her sons had moved on starting their own families, she went back to school and received her BS and MS degrees and started a new career in nursing education in the local county Vo-Tech school and finally working for the state overseeing various nursing education programs on a state level. In 1983 she was honored to have been selected to travel to the Caucasus region of the Soviet Union with a US delegation reviewing nursing education in areas near the Black Sea. In 1985 she and her husband, Willard and daughter, Karen moved to Statesboro GA where they became members of Statesboro First United Methodist Church, where she was active in Sunday school and many church and community organizations. In 1995 Gwen was honored by the community with the Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind Award. Gwen and Willard traveled extensively in their retirement, throughout the US and several trips to Europe and even cruising to the South Pacific Islands.
Mrs. Fell was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Harry Fell, Sr.; daughter, Karen Ann Fell; sisters, Alma Morgan and Ella Platt; and brother, George McMahon, Jr.
Gwen is survived by her sons, Willard H. (Will) Fell, Jr. and his wife, Susan of Darien and Kenneth R. (Ken) Fell and his wife, Dyan of Germantown, MD; five grandchildren, Daniel Fell of Athens GA, Tiffany Fell of Decatur GA, Sarah Fell of Washington DC, David Fell of Hagerstown MD and Bryan Tisinger of Fairfax VA; Three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 1:00 to 2:30 PM Friday, December 28, 2018 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home, immediately follow by the funeral service in the funeral home chapel officiated by Reverend Jimmy Cason.
Entombment will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
In lieu of customary remembrance, memorial contributions may be made to Magnolia Manor of St. Simons Island, 2255 Frederica Rd, St. Simons Island, Georgia 31522.
