

Mr. James "Harry" Deal, age 79, died Sunday at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. He was a longtime resident of Bulloch County and a member of the Eastern Heights Baptist Church, where he was active in the Jeff Owens Sunday School Class. He retired from Joiner International after many years of service. Mr. Deal enjoyed fishing, growing a garden, spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For many years, Mr. Deal was a member of the Bulloch Squares, where he participated in square dancing. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Eugene and Marilu Cason Deal; two sons, Allen Deal and Gary Deal; three brothers, Wyman Deal, Durwood Deal and Johnnie Deal; and one sister, Mary Jean Lee.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Allen Deal of Statesboro; two grandchildren, Blake (Ashley) Deal of Statesboro and Meribeth (Keith) Fields of Ocala, Florida; three great-grandchildren, Madison Deal, Ava Fields and Iyla Fields; one sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Leo Hotchkiss of Statesboro.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Eastern Heights Baptist Church.
Active pallbearers will be Michael Deal, Randy Deal, Steve Hotchkiss, Wayne Lee, Lee Moore and Bill Perkins.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jeff Owens Sunday School Class.
Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
