

Mr. James “Edwin” Ennis, age 74, passed away Wednesday at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL after a short illness. He was a native of Pembroke, GA but had lived for 55 years in St. Mary’s, GA. He retired after 38 years of service with Gilman Paper Company. He is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, the former Sarah Jo Jones of Statesboro, his father Raleigh Ennis, his mother, Flora Mae Cowart Ennis, and an infant son.
Survivors include one son, David (Tami) Ennis of St. Mary’s and two daughters, Edwina (Tommy)Stephens of St. Mary’s and Sandi (Michael) McCoppin of Middletown, MD. He was the proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Edwin is also survived by his stepmother, Julia Ennis and two brothers, William (Margaret) Ennis of McIntosh County and Terry (Eva) Ennis of Savannah, GA, four sisters: Florine (Donnie) White of Guyton, GA, Vera (Raymond) McCoy, Deloris (William) Joyner and Marcia (Wendell) Wells all of Pembroke, GA; special friend, Earline Wilson and family, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5:30 until 8:30 PM at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Bryant officiating.
Burial will follow at the Lower Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Bryan County.
Pallbearers will be his first cousins: Artie Purvis, Aubrey Purvis, Carroll Purvis, Junior Purvis, Rondal Ennis and Charles Cowart.
