

Mr. Ralph Ulysses Bacon, age 90, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2011, at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice, and with his wife and daughter at his side. Mr. Bacon was born on October 5, 1920, in Pembroke, Georgia, the son of Ulysses J. Bacon and Lillian Carter Bacon. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific on Guadalcanal and Bougainville during World War II as a Master-Sergeant. Mr. Bacon was a graduate of Georgia Teachers College (now Georgia Southern University) and Mercer University’s Walter F. George Law School. He practiced law in Statesboro and the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit for many years. He was a former member of the Bulloch County Bar Association, the Georgia Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. He was a current member of the American Legion Post 90, and was a charter member of Pittman Park United Methodist Church. Since retirement, he had enjoyed many wonderful years of fishing and visiting with family and friends. Mr. Bacon was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Bacon MacLachlan; his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Gerald C. Bacon and Elise I. Bacon; his sister, Aileen B. Harn, and his sister and brother-in-law, Ivey B. and Paul Beardslee; a niece, Carter Harn; a brother-in-law, Clayborne Bunch; and a sister-in-law, Mary R. Bunch.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Faye Bunch Bacon, of Statesboro; his daughter, Lisa (Chris) Bacon Caggiano of Spartanburg, South Carolina; his sons, John Bradford (Angelia) Bacon of Oxford, Georgia, and Jack Bacon of Atlanta, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Maryanna, Nicholas and Lily Caggiano of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Devin, Dylan, and Sarah Kate Bacon of Oxford, Georgia; one brother-in-law, Wendell Bunch of Statesboro; two sisters-in-law, Merle B. Hogan of Statesboro, and Janet B. Bunch of Canton, Georgia; fourteen nieces and nephews, several great nieces and great nephews, and a host of very dear friends.
Visitation for Mr. Bacon will be held Tuesday, July 5, from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, July 6, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Elmer Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chris Caggiano, Nick Caggiano, and Devin Bacon; and nephews, Robert Bunch, Brant Bunch, Brian Bunch, and Kenny Williams.
