
Mr. William Leonard Hight, Jr. “Bill”, 85 died Thursday evening at East Georgia Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Bill was born in North Wilksboro, N.C., spent his early years in Hickory, N. C. and married his pre-deceased wife Helen Leatherman Hight in 1950 in North Carolina. He entered the U.S. Air Force when he was only 17, served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and retired from the Air Force in 1972 in Georgia. In 1968 Bill and Helen moved to Statesboro, Ga. where they were founding members of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and then became members of the First Presbyterian Church of Statesboro. He was a real estate agent in Statesboro for many years and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors are a daughter and son in law Janet and Jimmy Ward of Statesboro, a son and daughter in law Ronnie and Emily S. Hight of Statesboro; sister, Carolyn Elliott of Hickory, N.C., a brother Harry L. Hight of Newton, NC; four Grandchildren Jonathan and wife Emily T. Hight, April Hight, Jamie Ward and Jeremy Ward; great grandson, Blake Hight.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday January 8th at 3:30pm First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Dan Lewis officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will be held at Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held Sunday at First Presbyterian Church from 2:00pm until 3:30pm.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Hight, Jeremy Ward, Joe Anderson, Jay Cook, Mike Duncan and George Chappell.
