

She was a native of Union County, NC, where she was born on January 12, 1918, and was the daughter of the late Carl J. Price and Nannie Bright McManus Price. Mrs. Helms was married for 53 years to Norris J. Helms who preceded her in death in 1986.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Statesville where she was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and the Ester Bible Class. Mrs. Helms was a volunteer Pink Lady at Iredell Memorial Hospital for many years. Prior to moving to Statesville, she resided in Monroe, NC for 23 yrs. and Greensboro, NC, for 22 yrs. During her lifetime, she was an active member of her church and community serving as a Girl Scout leader, a Girls’ Auxiliary leader, and a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Greensboro Garden Club, Christian Women’s Club, and the NC State Women’s Club. Her faith was the centerpiece of her life. She loyally supported community and religious organizations that sought to improve the lives of others. Her passion was missions, and later in life she became a founding member of the Women’s Missionary Union Vision Fund.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Samuel Caldwell Price, Buford Atwood Price, Ney Clayton Price, and Pascal Carl Price. She is survived by her sister Daphne Price Knowles and her brothers DeWitt Talmadge Price, Rudolph O’Neal Price, and Keith Boger Price. Mrs. Helms is also survived by her son James A. Helms and his wife Marilynn of Mooresville, NC, and by her three daughters Marilyn H. Lambeth and her husband Clay of Asheville, NC; Daphne H. Sherman and her husband Bill of Pooler, GA; and Katherine H. Sills and her husband Bill of Statesville, NC. In addition, Mrs. Helms is survived by 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Raj Kumar Joshi for his medical care and wisdom and the staff of Statesville Place where Mrs. Helms resided for 5 years. Also, the family would like to express their gratitude to Ann’s caregivers, Jennifer Hefner, Paulette Klein, Lisa Crawford, Bonnie White, Sherrie Bulkley, Toni Byers, Edith Moose, Rachel Stadtfeld, and Mary Carson for their loving care and support.
A celebration of her life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Statesville, NC Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 11:00am with Dr. Jeff Porter, Dr. Jack Causey, and Reverend Will Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in Adams Hall at the church. Graveside services will follow that afternoon at 3:00pm at Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe, NC with Reverend Ollis Revels presiding.
