Bessie C. Scott

She was born August 20, 1920, in Statesville and was the daughter of the late Lamber A. and Carrie Lambert Campbell. She was a retired spinner with J.P. Stevens after more than 35 years of service and was a life-long member of South River Baptist Church. Some of the things she enjoyed most was sewing, quilting and reading her Bible.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Kenneth Scott, whom she married on March 22, 1954; a sister; and three brothers.

Bessie is survived by her daughter, Mary Frances Rankin of Harmony; her son, James A. Campbell of Statesville; two sisters, Mamie Bunton and Mary Teague, both of Statesville; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services celebrating Bessie’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 22, 2011, at South River Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Henry Cook officiating. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Thursday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home and at other times will assemble at the residence of her grandson, Dale Rankin, 142 Rabbit Highway, Harmony.
