Betty Jean Young Massey

Born in Iredell County on October 3, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Wilford Young and Pearl Miller Young of Statesville.

Betty graduated Cool Springs High school and married George Edwin Massey, Sr. Together they owned and operated a wholesale bakery for 15 years. She then went to work for Hunt-Penn Manufacturing and later worked for Brian Center of Statesville as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

She was strong in her faith and a member of Covenant ARP Church. Betty was known in the community and was loved by so many, especially the residents of Brian Center. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, George Edwin Massey, Sr.; one son, John Eric Massey and a brother, Jerry Young.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, George E. “Eddie” Massey (Kathy) of Wilmington, NC; Charles “Chuck” Massey (Robin) of Salem, SC; one daughter, Susan Young Massey of Statesville; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, and one sister, Pinkie Smith of Statesville.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 PM in the Westmoreland Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
