

Mrs. Billie Carter Lockman, 94, of 109 Bowen Drive, Statesville, died Sunday at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Catawba County on November 24, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Ernest VanBuren Carter and Myrtle Elizabeth Carter. She formerly worked in the school cafeteria in the Statesville City Schools and was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She also formerly ran a dress shop, Tracy's in downtown Statesville. On January 1, 1943, she married Mr. Russell Gabriel Lockman who died on March 6, 2009. She was also preceded in death by brothers: George, Clyde, Gus, Ernest and Ed Carter.
Survivors include two sons, David Russell Lockman of Statesville and Mark DeWitt Lockman and his wife, Nicole of Mooresville along with a daughter, Mrs. Judy Sherrill and her husband, Tree of Mooresville. Also surviving are a sister, Sally P. Link of Iron Station, N.C. and grandchildren: Perrin, Wesley, Kimberly, Claire, and Justine Lockman, Brooke Davis and Brett Sherrill, along with great grandchildren: Gabriel, Ella and Kainen.
Services celebrating Mrs. Lockman's life will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Karen Miller and Rev. David Troutman officiating. Pallbearers will be: George Keul, Jeff Carter, Lynn, Bill and Michael McConnell, Neil Furr and Doug Felts. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
