In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Erika Felice Summers; five brothers, James "Snooky" Mayfield, Nathaniel "Boone" Mayfield, Eugene Mayfield, Milton Mayfield and Isaiah "Mickey" Mayfield; and three sisters, Margaret Gaskill, Pauline Whiteside and Katherine Williams.
Clifford leaves to cherish the memories of his life, his wife of 56 years, Mary Summers of the home; children, Eric Summers and Maritza Summers, both of Statesville, Shahna Sumpter and William (Marosal) Sumpter, both of New York; sisters, Mary Mayfield and Elizabeth Mayfield Jackson both of Statesville; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and special friends, Odell Williams, who was willing to help him after his stroke in 2010 as a caregiver, and Mark Mayfield, who helped him for the last 15 years when he was unable to do some tasks after his stroke. GOD bless both of them for their unconditional love, he could be a little much at times. Clifford was also blessed with many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
After attending Unity High School, Clifford went on to work as a brick mason. He was an awesome brick mason who took pride in all of his work. He worked on Panther Stadium, Bobcat Arena, Pyramid Construction, and many other buildings in Charlotte.
We are all unique in our own way and he was no exception, and to know him was to love him.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."
John 14:1-3
