

Francis Earlene Louise Smith Massey, known as Earlene, 100, of Statesville passed away on September 17th 2019. She was born on July 22nd 1919 to the late William M. Smith and Roneta Clodfelter Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Frank Allen Massey and her siblings, Eulah Mae Anderson, Eugene Smith and William Horace Smith.
She is survived by her children, Smith A. Massey and wife Peggy, and Dwenda M. Goodman and husband Mark. Grandchildren are: Aric Ledford and wife Julie, Chad A. Massey and wife Alicia, Wendy G. Belk and husband Michael, and Misti R. Gault and husband Charles. Six Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Earlene graduated salutatorian of the class of 1936 from Sharon School in Iredell County. She married Frank Massey in 1949 while she was working at Davis Hospital in the records department. Earlene was a mild mannered woman, kind, polite and proper and always shared a smile. She loved growing flowers and roses in her yard. Many times cutting the fresh flowers and sharing them with friends and neighbors. She was a member of the Monticello Garden Club and hosted many meetings in her home on Old Wilkesboro Road. She was also a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, Bible School and was an integral part of the United Methodist Women’s Association. She was an accomplished seamstress making many of her clothes and her children’s clothes as well as her granddaughters.
She celebrated her 90th birthday in 2009 and enjoyed having a former classmate as well as friend and family for the celebration. In July of 2019 she celebrated her milestone 100th birthday, at Maple Leaf Healthcare with many friends and relatives.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church at 3pm on Friday, September 20th, 2019 with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the services in the fellowship hall.
