Hartmut is preceded in death by his stepson, Steve Martin.
Hartmut is survived by his wife, Carolyn Pannwitz; stepchildren, Rocky Martin Sr., and Kimberly Smith; grandchildren, Rocky Martin Jr., Josh Smith, Amanda Martin, Heather Elliott, and Dawn Martin; great grandchildren, Brody Smith, Kaylee Stutts, Sophie Smith, Zale Rollins, Rocky Martin III, and Colton Martin; special friends, John Rhine and Fred Haalch; and so many more that are too numerous to mention, but who he loved so dearly.
Hart worked as a bricklayer, and later as a truck driver. He also spent 10 years working for the U.S. Army in Germany. He was a member of First Assembly/Lake City Church in Mooresville for 25 years. He was involved in many areas of serving at the church, including working with children and with men’s group ministries. Hart assisted with the Royal Rangers, a program for boys. He volunteered at the Brian Center, and also, for many years, at the Iredell Senior Center, where he would be a wonderful Santa Claus!
In his youth, Hart loved table tennis and was an avid soccer player. Later in life, he competed in the Senior Olympics for many years, where he won many medals that he was proud of.
Hart's grandmother, who he loved with all his heart, was instrumental in leading him to the Lord as a child. He was an advocate for Jesus and for the Lord's work. He would pray for anyone, anywhere, and would always say to everyone, "Have a Blessed Day!". Hart's cellphone ringtone was “Amazing Grace”, and his go-to phrase was "Victory in Jesus."
Carolyn, his wife, was always his top priority. He was a devoted, faithful, and loving husband, father, and grandfather. His main love was the Lord, his wife, his family and his friends. Hart was honest, caring, giving, humble, and extremely kind. Hart never met a stranger, he loved so many friends, and he loved America.
A Memorial Service will be held at Lake City Church, Mooresville, NC, on Saturday, May 20th at 2pm, with Pastor Rob Spradley officiating.
