Born in Russell County, VA, he was the son of the late Lee Hess and Lena Tuggle Hess. He graduated from Honker High School.
Lawrence worked as a school bus driver and worked at John Boyle Company until his retirement.
He was a faithful member of The WAVE (Statesville Full Gospel Tabernacle). He always made everyone feel special and welcome. He had a smile and laugh that was contagious, that will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Leonard Hess; one sister, Wanda Hess and two brothers-in-law.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Alice Susan Osborne Hess with whom he would have celebrated 49 years of marriage on June 2nd; Two sons, Lawrence Douglas Hess and Jerry Ellis Hess; two brothers, Robert (Janet) Hess and Willie (Alberta) Hess; four sisters, Florence Blevins, Margaret Granados, Carol (Kevin) Smith and Virginia Hess. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday, May 25, 2019 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at The WAVE (Statesville Full Gospel Tabernacle) at 135 Village Point Drive Statesville, NC 28625.
The funeral service to celebrate Lawrence’s life will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at 3:00 PM at The WAVE (Statesville Full Gospel Tabernacle) with Pastor Max Hayes and Pastor Tammy James officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Osborne, Earl McCall, James Carrier, Ken Wallace, John Carpenter, Woody Hooks and Donnie Bandy.
