

He was born June 6, 1924, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Houston and Mae Bennette Henderson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion. He was a retired lieutenant with the Statesville Police Department and a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a member of Calvary Community Church and loved people, having never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on October 18, 2012, by his wife, Fannie Mitchell Henderson, whom he married on March 1, 1946; and by a son, Robert Henderson; and two brothers, Mull Henderson and Preston Henderson.
He is survived by two daughters, Shelby (James) Hager and Patricia (Robert) Lubel, both of Statesville; a son, David (Karen) Henderson of Easley, SC; a daughter-in-law, Judy Fox Henderson of Stony Point; six grandchildren, Traci (Scott) Moody of Plantation, FL; Robin Rogowski, Amy (Benny) Dalton, Kelli (Bill) Staley and James Marvin Hager, all of Statesville, and Nate Henderson of Easley, SC; five great-grandchildren, Kaylee Cash (Casey Alexander), Alexis Dalton and Zoe Dalton, all of Statesville, Alice Moody and Grace Moody, both of Plantation, FL; one sister, Nettie (Jay) McCoy of Statesville; and one brother, Wiley (Evelyn) Henderson of Statesville.
Funeral service celebrating Marvin’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, August 31, 2015, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Union Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors accorded by Harmony American Legion Post 113.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence.
