Rachel Parks Mauney

Born April 20, 1918 in Goldsboro, NC, she was the daughter Berry Preston Parks and Mertie Belle Gardner Parks.

Mrs. Mauney worked many years as an elementary school librarian at Mulberry Elementary School. She was an active member of Front Street Baptist Church, where she sang in the Adult Choir, was a member of the Young at Hearts group and taught in Sunday school.

Rachel had many talents. She was an excellent seamstress, avid gardener, musician and vocalist.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Carl Gordon Mauney.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Rachel Ann Curtis (David) of Denver, Carl Richard Mauney (Joy) of Mooresville and Joy Carol Gobble (Marvin) of Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren, Amy Mehochko (Dan), Dr. Sarah Curtis, Preston (Leslie) Curtis, Meredith Bradley, Jennifer (J.R.) Brown, Suzannah Pessagno and Emily (Matt) Butler. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Jackson, Seraphine, William, Perrin, Bodie and Pierce

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Front Street Baptist Church on Saturday, March 7, 2015. The service will begin at 11:00 AM with Dr. Marvin Gobble, Jr. and Rev. Tim Stutts officiating. Burial will be held at 3:00 PM at Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery in Shelby, NC.
