She was born November 12, 1919, in Sioux City, Iowa, and was a daughter of the late John Amos Hill and Oceo Odella Pugh Hill. She was a retired switchboard operator and was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Robert Simpson.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Robinson of Statesville, a granddaughter, Brenda Merkel of Germany and two great grandchildren.
Services celebrating Violet's life will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Monday, October 31, 2011, in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas E. Southern officiating. The family will speak with friends immediately following the service.
