

Mr. William Farrell Shook, 86, of 233 Goble Rd. Statesville, passed away peacefully on Saturday April 27, 2013 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Iredell County on April 13, 1927, he was a son of the late Walter Shook and Eva Pope Shook.
He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his treasured sister, Gladys Shook (Robert) Reed, a brother, Melvin Shook and a baby sister who died at birth.
Known by many as Farrell, Pop, Papa Bill and Uncle Bill, he was a kind, gentle man that always saw the best in everyone. He lead his family by example with love and respect for family, his earth, God and his country. He served in World War II and loved his country with all he was. A humble, simple man, he loved his farm, his horses, music, dancing and lived his entire life with a joyful soul even in the worst of circumstances. He was retired from his own heating and plumbing business and from farming, and was a WW II veteran of the U. S. Navy. On August 16, 1949, he married the former Dorothy Hargett, his wife of 63 years, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Walter Daniel Shook of Brevard, a daughter, Amye Shook Hines and her husband, Jim of Statesville, a brother, Jerry Shook and his wife, Margie of Charlotte, grandchildren: Tyler Palmer, Will Palmer, Levi Burgin, Ali Hines and Madison Barnette and great grandchildren: Grace Cunningham, Anna Baldwin, Will Palmer, Andrew Shook and Jesse Hines.
Services celebrating Mr. Shook's life will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday at Bethel United Methodist Church with Pastor Naomi King officiating. Pallbearers will be: Tyler Redwine Palmer, Rob Reed, Andrew Shook, Will Palmer, Scott Dale and Jesse Hines.
Burial will follow in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery with full Military Rites presented by the Harmony American Legion Post # 113.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall for one hour prior to the service while the body lies in state in the sanctuary in a closed casket.
