Barbara Ellen Berry

Barbara Ellen “Bobbie” Berry, 89, of Durham, NC, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Envoy of Staunton Mrs. Berry was born on June 21, 1931 in Durham, NC and was a daughter of the late Jesse Newton and Bettie Katherine (Poole) Carder. Bobbie graduated from Durham High School where she was a part of the 49ers Club, and remained active until a few years ago. She also graduated from University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and later received her teaching certificate from Madison College in 1967. Mrs. Berry taught school in Elkton, and Waynesboro for 26 years, until her retirement. Bobbie was a longtime member of the Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church in Durham where she was a member of the Sylvan Seniors and Central United Methodist Church in Staunton. Mrs. Berry enjoyed crafting and eating ice cream with her grandchildren, cooking and traveling with her friends. On September 7, 1957 she married Rev. William P. Berry who preceded her in death on January 13, 1995. Mrs. Berry is survived by her children, David P. Berry of Staunton, VA, Betty Neikirk and husband Chip of Hayes, VA; and two grandchildren, William and Kathryn Neikirk. In addition to her husband and parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight Carden.
