Dorothy Ann Leonhardt

Dorothy Ann (Cort) Leonhardt, age 103, of Staunton, Virginia, died Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Aviva Baldwin Park. Dorothy was born May 18, 1920, in Baltimore, Maryland to Dr. and Mrs. William W. Cort. She married Karl T. Leonhardt in March of 1941 and graduated from Goucher College in Baltimore in June of 1941. Dorothy and Karl had four children; Thomas, Louise, Alice and Philip. She was a devoted wife and caring mother. In addition to raising her four children, she worked as a Head Start preschool teacher until her retirement in 1977. She stayed active after retirement by traveling, gardening and horseback riding with Karl, and caring for her grandchildren. Late in life, she exercised regularly, taught line dancing, played bridge and knit blankets for cancer patients. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; daughter, Louise; sisters Helen Bracket and Peggy Oliver. Survivors include her children, Tom Leonhardt, Alice Leonhardt, Phil Leonhardt; grandchildren, Kadie Rubenstein, Brian Thompson, Beth Thompson, Alyson Brehm and six great grandchildren. Special condolences and thanks to Jim Reid, her devoted partner who was not only an excellent dance partner, but so crucial to the happiness of her later years.
