
Elizabeth Mae Carper Whisman, 99 of Staunton, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2014 at a local nursing home. She was born in Augusta County, Virginia on November 17, 1914, a daughter of the late Bertie and Emmett Carper.
Elizabeth was a member of the Staunton Church of the Brethren. She was employed at the Genesco Child Care Center and the Kings Daughters Hospital in housekeeping. When she wasn’t working, Elizabeth enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion C. Whisman; a son, Charles Whisman, four brothers, Cecil Carper , Charles Carper, John Carper, and Hubert Carper; three sisters, Maddie Estes, Louise Davis, and Margaret McNutt. She is survived by her son, Ronnie Whisman and his wife Sue; daughter-in-law, Billie Whisman; four grandchildren, Lori Caldwell, Charles “Chuck” Whisman, Tammy Dietz and her husband Jeff, and Matthew Whisman; five great- grandchildren, Hannah Lucas and her husband James, Megan Brown and her husband Brad, Emily Caldwell, Nicholas Whisman, and Nathan Whisman; great great-grandson, Mason Brown.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home, family welcomes friends at their residence, 127 Skyview Circle, Verona, Virginia.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2014 at Thornrose Cemetery with Pastor Scott Duffy officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Elizabeth’s honor to the Staunton Church of the Brethren Building Fund, 1615 North Coalter Street, Staunton, Virginia 24401, or Legacy Hospice, 17 Parkway Lane, Fishersville, Virginia 22939.
