John Paul Brooks, 94, of Staunton passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018.
John was born in Charlottesville, Va on July 4, 1924, the son of the late John Haden Brooks and Ruby Yount Brooks.
John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army with the 65th Infantry Division during World War II. He served in reconnaissance in France, Germany and Austria. He served three years and three months earning the rank of Staff Sargent. John attended Lane High School until his enlistment. His first love was golf and he worked as a teaching Golf Pro in Florida and North Carolina. After returning to Charlottesville, he worked as a skilled brick mason and built his own home in Standardsville, Va. John was a big fan of UVA football. Many of his friends knew him as J.P.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anita.
He is survived by two sisters, Claudine Brooks Chandler and her husband, Mac R. Chandler and Betty Brooks Craun; two nieces, Vanessa Smith and her husband, Sandy and Kimberly Brooks Cormier and her husband, Joe; one nephew, Brian Chandler and his wife, Erin; two great nephews, Tanner and Hunter Smith; and several cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Riverview Cemetery, Charlottesville.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes of Staunton.
