
Oliver was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania January 5, 1931, the son of the late Oliver Miles Meiss and Ruth Virginia Meiss.
He was married to Janet Bell Meiss, whom he married September 22, 1956.
Oliver was a 1948 graduate of Staunton Military Academy. In 1952 he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BS degree in Engineering and a commission in the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
During the Korean Conflict he served in the European Theater of Operations as a 1st Lieutenant in the 118th Combat Engineer Battalion, 43 Infantry Division.
Upon retirement from active military duty in 1954 Oliver joined Westinghouse Electric Corporation on its graduate student program in Pittsburgh.
Later that year he moved to Staunton with the position of Industrial Engineer in the company’s air conditioning division.
In 1973 Oliver joined the General Electric Company in Waynesboro as a senior manufacturing engineer whose responsibility was to coordinate the efforts of other company functions and outside vendors in providing the tools, equipment and training to manufacture the company’s products.
During the 1980’s and early 1990’s this effort was expanded to include establishing similar manufacturing operations in Reynosa, Mexico at the GE/Genicom Facility.
Oliver is survived by his wife, Janet.
Internment in Thornrose Cemetery will be private.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
